Play is the most freeing and intuitive approach to making art. It was this idea that inspired Sketch and Stitch - a guided, playful exploration without the pressure or expectations that come with a canvas or the goal of a completed artwork.
During this workshop, we’ll spend time exploring, collecting, sketching, and simply noticing our surroundings. Using these visual records of the environment, we’ll play with a variety of materials and methods - repeating, reimagining, and nurturing our own creative language into existencce.
We will start the day with sketching, using material that can start our play with shape, line and repeated patterns. From this we will introduce watercolour paints, coloured pencils and ink. As we build this layering of different mediums there will be time for me to demonstrate how to add gold foil and stitch which we will also then explore together. To finish we will assemble all these experiments and observations to create a mini sketchbook.
This workshop celebrates the wonderful opportunity that sketch-booking provides: the chance to discover, explore, and develop without pressure or outcomes. This is not about producing finished artworks - it’s about starting conversations, taking visual notes, and becoming a vessel for inspiration.
By the end of our day together you will have created a beautiful booklet full of inquiry and observation that will be a seed of inspiration to your future self.
I really looking forward to sharing my skills and knowledge and guiding this day of playful creativity. I hope you can join me.
